Newark, Middletown, & Smyrna Retainers
Keep Your Smile Straight for Life
Retainer treatment at Delaware Orthodontics helps protect your results and keep your smile looking its best long after braces or aligners. By wearing your retainer as directed, you can maintain your alignment and avoid unwanted shifting.
Types of Retainers
Dr. Husain and Dr. Flagg offer a variety of options—including Essix, Hawley, and fixed retainers—to help maintain your results and prevent unwanted shifting.
Essix Retainers
Clear, custom-made trays—similar to aligners—created from detailed 3D scans for a precise fit. They’re nearly invisible and completely removable.
Hawley Retainers
A time-tested solution made of durable plastic and metal wire, molded to fit your unique smile. This option is adjustable if your teeth shift.
Fixed Retainers
Sometimes a fixed retainer is placed on the back of your bottom front teeth. If you need one, we’ll always pair it with an Essix or Hawley retainer for your upper teeth.
Retention Extension Program
Because we’re so committed to a smile that lasts a lifetime, we offer a retainer program. For $680, you can enroll and have your retainers replaced at any time for a small copayment of $40 (regularly $210) for ten years.
Retainer Care Guidelines
- Wear your retainers whenever you’re home unless told otherwise. Remove them to eat, brush, swim, or play contact sports.
- Bring your retainer to follow-up appointments so we can check the fit.
- Keep your retainer case with you so your retainers stay safe.
- Call us if your retainer doesn’t fit properly, is cracked or broken, or is lost.
- Clean your retainers once a day with a toothbrush, toothpaste, and warm—not hot—water.
- Keep your retainers away from heat and away from pets.
